Friday 28th November - The Circle Line Skate

London Friday Night Skate

Rained off

FRIDAY sees the annual Circle Line Skate. We head off from Hyde Park Corner to Victoria and then work our way round every Circle Line station to Sloane Square. It's further than a regular London Friday Night Skate (17 miles) so it goes a little faster but we get two breaks - one at Liverpool Street and another at Paddington. And this year not two but three Lead Marshals share the load: Sol, Bren and David. The Circle Line Skate is not a huge social experience, like Halloween or the Santa Stroll, but, for those who love the feel of tarmac under their wheels, it's one of the highlights of the year. Because it's a long skate, we try to leave promptly at 8.00.pm. Don't miss it!

Sunday 23rd November - Westminster & Chelsea (Route)

Friday 21st November - Clapham Old Town, new tricks

We've been east, we've been west, but we all know going down is best. This week we're going downtown to Clapham Common. If you've skated that way before, the chances are you took a different route, because lead marshal Rogetta told us we've only taken this route once before. So think of it as an old town doing new tricks, and join us for more than a boot full of Friday fun. We start at 8pm sharp, so please don't be late.

Sunday 16th November - The Sound Of music (Route)

Friday 14th November - Walls Of Old London

This week the LFNS explored the WALLS OF OLD LONDON. We visited all seven -gate streets plus the true location of the Cripplegate. Thrown in at no extra are the Barbican, London Wall (street) and Tower of London, plus a few lesser known gems: Castle Baynard street, once the site of Castle Baynard, western counterpart to the Tower of London and a setting for Shakespeare's Richard III (now a rather cool tunnel).

All this, and a sprint home along the long smooth surfaces of Embankment and Victoria.

Sunday 9th November - It's spring again!

On Sunday we shall dare the Autumn weather gods once more by attempting to run the stroll to "Spring Gardens", in Vauxhall, where halftime is overlooked by the satellite and CCTV encrusted edifice of Mr Bond's payroll office. The gods didn't take too kindly to this sort of insolence last time we tried it. Let's see if Halloween's shenanigans have made any difference...

Friday 7th November - Galloping Gertie

We completed the black route up Nine Elms Lane - as promised, it was a long straight lovely stretch of road. Unfortunately the weather made us stop only a few yards before we reached Hyde Park Corner!

Sunday 2nd November - Reigning Cats and Dogs

This SUNDAY we're going to Battersea. Lead Marshal Dan says "I've never led a skate to Battersea before, so this will be a new experience for me even if not for anybody else...". Half time Battersea Park, watch out for twigs, leaves and other tree detritus

Friday 31st October - Halloween Skate

Yes, it's here. Friday brings the Halloween Skate - a celebration of ghouls, ghosties, witches, men in women's clothing and all things skatery. We're starting at the usual place and time (8.00pm from Wellington Arch if you really don't know) but the skate will be slower than the average LFNS to allow passers-by lots of time to appreciate the blood and horror on display - and because skating while holding on your headgear with one hand and trying not to trip over your cape can make sprints the tiniest bit tricky. The route will be around and about the centre of town to allow for the maximum amount of posing for tourists. Half time is at Covent Garden.

Sunday 26th October - It's Spring Time!

On Sunday we shall dare the Autumn weather gods once more by attempting to run the stroll to "Spring Gardens", in Vauxhall. Halftime overlooked by the satellite and CCTV encrusted edifice of Mr Bond's payroll office. The gods didn't take too kindly to this sort of insolence last time we tried it. Friday 24th October - Up the Arsenal

Indeed, it's true. This week we're all going up the Arsenal. Lead marshal El Roggie never could resist a double entendre, or much else come to think of it. So even though this week's route is a beauty, crammed full of smooth surfaces, magical downhill sections, and not even a whiff of the slightest uphill, we're heading to the Emirates Stadium simply because it sounds rude when you say it a certain way. Everything else is a bonus. Like the fabulous smooth expanse of pavement outside the stadium. That's a bonus. And the brand new, finished on Thursday-smooth-surface-of-Jermyn Street. That's a bonus too. As usual the fun starts at 8pm sharp, so please don't be late.

Sunday 30th November - Brunswick of it all

Sunday Stroll

Rained off

The SUNDAY STROLL is not quite a repeat of the rained-off route from two weeks ago, but it does look similar. To celebrate finally collecting the degree that has been sitting on a shelf waiting for him for the past decade or more, Lead Marshal Dan is taking us on a route with a vaguely academic theme. More significantly, Dan has led the only Stroll that was not rained off in the whole of November, so skaters whose academic education did not include the formal study of probability (or indeed meteorology) will be wanting to polish their rabbit's foot, kiss their four leaf clover and hope that his luck still lasts.

Because of the Winter Wonderland, the Stroll will be assembling just inside the fancy gates (Hyde Park Screen) between the park and the Wellington Arch. Or wherever we can find space - whatever happens we'll station marshals in obvious places to redirect people.

NEWS

Donations

The LFNSTM is STILL not asking for money over the web. If we were, it would say so here. But we aren't.

However, due to popular demand, we have created a donations account, whereby one off payments or regular contributions can be made, finally removing the need for our regular contributors to use cheque books and hard cash. Contact us if you require further details.

As always if you give money to anyone else claiming money on behalf of the regular Friday and Sunday streetskates in London it is not going to the LFNSTM. If in doubt just come and ask one of the marshals to point you in the right direction.

WAP Update Service

Sometimes you can't get near a computer to find out whether the skate is on or not. We know, it's a nuisance.

So now you can use WAP to find out! Go to wap.lfns.co.uk on your Mobile to see if we're going or whether the weather has beaten us.

We don't charge for this service - normal WAP connection costs apply.
